The Finale
The finished good is finally ready to be served before its master.
This is my third attempt, but I still think it doesn't look like a Mille Crepe =(
I hope he will like it.
I hope it doesn't look too bad to be a birthday surprise.
To wrap up the project, I'd like to say that I realised I enjoy baking although I fail at it, badly.
I love mixing the batter and pastry cream. I hated frying crepes during my first attempt and continued to feel so when I was frying the first few pieces yesterday night. As I fried more of them, I kind of enjoyed frying them. Will I bake another till I finally come to a good-looking Mille Crepe? Ohhh... not another one in the near future haha.
Thanks to everyone who helped and supported me in the project!
You know who you are.
Pictures will follow up when Little Mille Crepe is finally presented to the Birthday Boy!
Project Mille Crepe – Step 5 of N
This is attempt #2!
I managed to find some time after work yesterday to prepare the crepes batter and vanilla pastry cream. There is probably nothing much to improve on the crepes batter. I was yawning non-stop while mixing the eggs, flour, sugar and salt. The challenging part this time was to ensure that the vanilla pastry cream would taste and look like vanilla pastry cream. When I was almost done with the pastry cream, I was quite excited as I could smell vanilla (duh!). I mean, I could sense that I am going to make it this time!
I was supposed to fry the crepes today but I had to stay back after work. Pei Yee agreed to help me, yay! I didn't want to leave the crepes batter and pastry cream overnight for another day. I told her that we should use the wok this time, instead of our good-old-sticky-pan. As soon as I got home after badminton, I rushed to the refrigerator to have a look at the finished result.

Tadaa!

Vanilla Mille Crepe
Thanks to my crafty sister, the crepes are not out-of-shape now but I think it's still a little thick. I was the first to taste the cake and hmmmm... I would rate my vanilla mille crepe at 5/10 this time, hehe. Should I make another Chocolate one next? Or should I wait till next Thursday to make two final vanilla mille crepe cakes? Hehe. I'll sleep on it tonight.
Good night, folks!
Roti Canai
I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Fresh from the fridge

Looks can be deceiving!

Slice la!

I\'m coming!

Roti milo

Blah... keep trying!
Introducing… Vanilla Extract!

Vanilla
*Clap clap*
PeiYee finally found some vanilla extract for me! Yay!
I searched high and lo whole of last week - been to Kajang's Giant and Tesco, Serdang's Jusco and a local bakery shop (though it was closed) but I just could not find any vanilla.
** Update: The chocolate mille crepe was a failure. This has been proven yesterday when Mom opened the fridge and yelled, "What's that roti canai doing in the fridge?"
Therefore, the next step will be to return to making crepes batter again, this time with vanilla!
Of frying crepes
PeiYee was supposed to fry 20 pieces of crepes for me but when she started frying the first crepe, she yelled for me.
"It's impossible!"
I know it'll be tough but I cannot give up at this point?
Hence, I took charge and started frying my first crepe. While frying, I prayed that he would not enter the wet kitchen as he was washing up in the bathroom.
PeiYee was right. It was not easy because we do not have a good frying pan and the crepes must be real thin. My first crepe was okay although it went out of shape. When I was making the second crepe, he appeared next to me out of nowhere. He asked what I was doing and offered to help.
"Eh... my sis said she wants to eat this for her breakfast so I'm helping her"
He grabbed the pan from me and did the second crepe. It was still ugly (out of shape) but the third, fourth and fifth got better :) It was funny seeing him doing it for himself (haha).

My turn

Done!
And, the original 20 crepes became 10 only. I bet the first mille crepe will be a shorty mille crepe.
