The Dwarf Me
I am still in the office at the time of writing - just felt I should pen this down.
I have been working with this colleague in the past 4 months. I find it difficult to click with her during the first month, largely due to cross-culture communication issue. However, as time goes by, we can chat just about anything. I must admit that she has been sharing more than I do. We would greet each other Good Morning! when she arrives at her desk (I am always earlier than her). She would always call me for lunch. If I am going elsewhere after work, I would let her know so that we could travel in the MRT together. She would be so happy when she knows that she would not be travelling alone (she stays near the Changi Airport!). In the MRT, she would tell me about her partner, how much she missed him, how much she missed her family, how much she wished she could afford to bring them over to Singapore, how many support issues does she have for that day, etc.
She would sometimes handle something wrongly at work and get lectures from our manager. She would accept her mistakes immediately. She would stand up to defend herself when she feels it was not her mistake at all. She would accept suggestions and feedback openly. She is proud of herself even if she is not perfect. She is always wearing that sleepy look every morning as she sometimes work from home until the AM. However, she would always put up that smiley face whenever she speaks to me.
She has so much burden and commitment, although being the second in the family. She would not hesitate although she has to support her elder brother's and parents' living expenses.
I just feel so small in front of her.
Oh! And she calls me Hoong. Haha.

HDR Imaging: Attempt #1
I decided to use Photomatix Pro (trial version) for my first experiment. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range.
From wikipedia:
HDR imaging is a set of techniques that allow a greater dynamic range of luminances between the lightest and darkest areas of an image than standard digital imaging techniques or photographic methods
Where do I begin?
Before I can use Photomatix to produce a HDR photograph, I would need at least 3 photographs of the same scene. The 3 photographs will vary in their exposure settings. As such, I would need to produce one photograph with the highest exposure (very bright), normal exposure and lowest exposure (very dark). I can do this by setting the Auto-exposure Bracketing function on D-zai to capture +-2EV in 3 continuous shots. One would have to manually do this with a DSLR that does not have the Auto-exposure Bracketing function - set to 0EV, capture first shot; set to +2EV, capture second shot; set to -2EV, capture the last shot; and finally depend on the software to align the images.
The preparation:
Sample output (stamped with 'Photomatix' as I am using the trial version):
Oh, and while doing photo editing, I constantly find it a little difficult performing the task on a 15.4" monitor haha. I need a bigger, bigger screen :D
Obsessed with capturing Raw images
During the recent StanChart Marathon, I turned on the RAW + JPEG image capture setting on my D-zai. This was my first time capturing in RAW and actually started looking at post-processing them.
I could instantly see how flexible post-processing was with RAW files. I only chose to process selected images as it is quite time consuming - from editing to converting the RAW files to JPEG. By turning this setting on, my 8GB card can only store approximately 350 RAW + FINE JPEG images as opposed to 1000 FINE JPEG images.
I used to despise photographs post-processing. I used to think.. why can't photographers capture images with the same quality as after post-processing. I have come to understand myself that this is an alternative, to let you be more creative with your images. However, this cannot be done without the ability to capture at the right angle. I need to improve my composition skill in order to obtain more options during post-processing.
I guess I would want to capture images in RAW format during important events, during when I would not want to miss the opportunity to transform great captures to excellent photographs.
I am going to experiment on HDR photography next! However, it will be pretty limited because HDR imaging software doesn't come as freeware :(
Live Media Coverage
I was the official media for Mr Low Kean Cheong in the StanChart Singapore Marathon 2009 event. This is an annual event and there were more than 35,000 participants this year. The event not only attracted local citizens but runners from other countries as well.
After sending KC off, I wandered around Esplanade Park and City Hall.

These boys were participants in the Kids Dash category. The boy in the front kept questioning his mom about the marathon which he will be competing very soon while his little brother was fast asleep at the back. So so cute!
Less than three hours later, he completed the 21.1km run..
