The Concerned Government
During dinner today, KC shared a recent local news highlight - the latest installation from the Singapore government.
The government will be installing card readers on some of the selected (first phase) crossings in the city, beginning from tomorrow. These card readers are designated for elderly pedestrians. They will be able to get more time to cross the road once they tap their senior concession cards on the card reader. Cool eh? Other than bus and MRT commuters, pedestrians made up of quite a fair population in the city. Presently, pedestrians get about 17 seconds on a four-lane crossing and 21 seconds on a six-lane crossing. Senior citizens will now get another 3 to 5 seconds on the street.
The reason I am sharing this is because I was very surprised to hear the news and the first thing that came to my mind was, "What a concerned government!". Besides being impressed with how much the government cares about their citizens, I personally think this is one innovative idea; one that benefits all and continuously making use of the technology. They could have just increase the crossing times for the selected roads, saving much effort, but they didn't. More admiration, to the concerned government!
